The 2D Arg-H^e(N^e)C^z experiment allows the sequence-specific assignment of arginine H^e guanidino protons and C^z carbons in ¹³C,¹⁵N-labeled proteins in H₂O. A closely related pulse sequence is the 2D Arg-H^eN^e(C^z) experiment which correlates proton and nitrogen of the guanidino spin system. The pulse scheme is based on the HNCO pulse sequence.

Implementation on any AVANCE spectrometer equipped with an inverse probehead, a third channel and pulsed field gradients (PFGs).

The original sequence was reported in 94BIO14858 and an improved version has been published in 96JB59-7 .

A 2D ¹H-¹⁵N corerlation map is obtained correlating H^e guanidino protons (in F2) and N^h nitrogens (in F1) of arginine residues.
