Important aspects to consider:

• Isotopes with spin=1/2 exhibit sharp resonance lines whereas those with spin 1 or more (quadrupolar nuclei) show very broad lines due to the very short transverse relaxation times.
• The signal detection is favoured for isotopes having large magnetogyric ratios and high natural abundance.
•  T₁ and T₂ relaxation properties are very important.
• Sensitivity of the NMR experiment to be used.
