The low sensitivity and the resulting very broad signals (usually more than 1KHz) due to the quadrupolar moment are the two main reasons of the limited use of 33S NMR spectroscopy on organosulfur and sulfur-containing inorganic compounds.NMR REFERENCES
The most commonly used external standard samples are (NH4)2SO4 in D2O (0 ppm; absolute frequency of 7.676000 MHz with respect to 100.00 MHz of TMS) or 2M Cs2SO4 in D2O or CS2 (-333ppm). Also see IUPAC recommendations for reporting the NMR chemical shits of all nuclei relative to the 1H resonance of TMS (02JMR323-156).NMR PARAMETERS
NMR EXPERIMENTS33S chemical shift range: -600ppm to +400 ppm. Coupling constants in some 33S-X spin systems. T1 and T2 values are in the range 10-100 ms, affording very broad signals highly difficult to be detected. Thus, the repetition rate can be very high and high temperatures and low-viscosity solvents favour its detection.
